Champions Named At Orchard Hill Elementary School

With our largest group of elementary school spellers to date consisting of 65 students, Orchard Hill Elementary School competed on Friday, November 12. Two competitors in the 5th grade and one 4th grader were spelling national championship words without missing for over 30 rounds. Three competitors in the three grades earned the right to compete in the finals scheduled for February 2011 at Nomads Adventure Quest in South Windsor for the honor of representing South Windsor in the National Spelling Bee in Washington DC in May of 2011. Close to 300 students from all South Windsor schools have now competed in the South Windsor Bees.

Three winners were recognized in each grade earning a bee-yootiful trophy. Everyone participating received a spelling bee medal.

The South Windsor Spelling Bee is conducted by the South Windsor Community Foundation. Volunteers include members of the South Windsor Public Education Fund, South Windsor Junior Women’s Club, school faculty members, and a volunteer from the Monday Night Social Club / Special Olympics. The Rockville Bank Foundation is our signature sponsor funding approximately 50% of the cost of the spelling bees.
