ROCKVILLE, CONN., March 22, 2012 – In an effort to reduce costs, the Department of Revenue Services (DRS) has issued debit cards for some income tax refunds that are not designated for direct deposit. The DRS contracted with JPMorgan Chase (Chase) to administer the debit card program. However, there is some confusion about how consumers can access their funds through these cards.

“We have learned that some Rockville Bank customers report they are having problems with their income tax refund debit cards and have asked us for assistance in their use,” explains William H. W. Crawford, IV, President and Chief Executive Officer of Rockville Bank/Rockville Financial, Inc. “We want to help consumers learn how to easily access the cash from their tax refund debit cards. In addition, we invite anyone – whether they are a Rockville Bank customer or not – to contact our Call Center with any further questions.”

Rockville Bank is sharing the following instructions from http://www.ct.gov/drs/cwp/view.asp?A=1436&Q=498324 to help consumers understand how to use and activate their Connecticut Income Tax Refund Debit Cards:

  • Before you can use your card, card holders must first activate it by calling Chase Customer Service at 1-866-586-1705;
  • Have the card in front of you when making the call;
  • You will be prompted to enter your Social Security number and your zip code;
  • Once your card is activated, you may choose Option #4 from the Main Menu to create a PIN (Personal Identification Number) in order to withdraw cash at ATMs; and
  • Once you have activated your card, don’t forget to sign it.
